"Maybe" hat seinen Ursprung in dem Versuch zu verstehen, was Menschen dazu treibt, sich zunehmend einzukapseln, sich Freunden gegenüber zu entfremden, sich den geliebten Menschen gegenüber zu verschließen.
Offensichtlich wurde irgendwann einmal ein Weg eingeschlagen, der weit weg führte von dem, was einmal wichtig und gültig war. Es ist dabei nicht eindeutig klar, wann genau und was im Detail ge-schah; denn schließlich spielen hier viele Faktoren eine Rolle. Fest steht nur, wie sinnlos und letztlich auch tragisch eine derartige Wesensveränderung ist. Sie geschieht schleichend, lange Zeit kaum be-merkt und nicht ausreichend ernst genommen - ein frühzeitiges Erkennen und Gegenlenken hätte den Prozess möglicherweise aufhalten können.
Ich hatte also "echte" Menschen aus meinem Leben vor mir, als ich zu einer Musik, die ich bereits zuvor geschrieben hatte, begann, einen Songtext zu verfassen. Die Grundidee, also der Zusammenhang von "Liebe zu erfahren" und "Liebe zu geben" , hatte ich jetzt deutlich vor Augen, und ich ließ meinen Gedan-ken freien Lauf. Irgendwann ging mir diese unvergleichliche Textzeile Paul McCartneys aus "The End", dem fast letzten Song auf "Abbey Road" der "Beatles", durch den Kopf. Damit war der Knoten geplatzt und wie von selbst entstand, Zeile für Zeile, die Lyrik zu "Maybe".
